Skiiiiiiiing! Whoosh!

Well what i weekend I just had!

The boy decided to book an impromptu weekend in glasgow, and the plan was to chill out and enjoy some time together (what with me and my hectic schedule). He then planned a surprise visit to Xscape and a beginners skiing lesson!

Now I love the thought of skiing but the idea of falling and breaking something kept putting me off. But since it was all booked then i had no choice...and i'm so glad i went!

Firstly there was the embarrassment of fitting into ski pants (believe me these are not attractive!) and whispering your size to the attendant so that the boy cant hear is not great lol. Plus i think she took great delight in giving me a mix matched outfit as the trousers were small and the jacket fitted fine lol (or maybe it's just my hips and i will have to work on the diet a bit more). Anyway after a lot of huffing and puffing I was dressed to ski.

Over to the boots and ski's department to get kitted up....and this is where they ask your weight :faint: luckily the boy got taken to a different counter and again i whispered the dreaded numbers to the attendant. She didnt faint or scream (thank god!) and just adjusted the ski's appropriately. So boots on, ski's in hand, dressed as a blue and black marshmallow and still a helmet to go (flattering is not the case when it comes to skiing and thank god there were no mirrors in sight lol).

Anyway all kitted up and checked over we headed out to the snow (minus five brrrr). Firstly we learnt to slide and balance on our right foot, then the left and then both ski's were on and we were trying to climb the slope. Believe me it's a lot easier to watch lol! And the only way down is to ski....help! I managed the first two attempts, a lot of balancing problems though and without the instructor, Jo, I would have been on my bum. However, on the third attempt and slide down the hill bum in snow and highly embarrassment. Worse part was trying to stand up after the fall - think more of a beached whale and you'll get the idea lol.

Lots more practice later and i had mastered the tow rope up the slope, a slow ski down the hill and a controlled stop woohoo level one passed! Hopefully next time i'll get further up the hill than a few hundred yards though ;p
